Just got back from Christmas in the Caymans. Our son and his family live there so we visit often usually staying at Kaibo Beach area. It seems to me there is more and more tour traffic to Starfish Point. Boats with up to 30-40 folks parking right off the point. Of course everyone is there to see the Starfish much like Stingray city. The biggest difference is the Starfish can't be handled like the Stingrays.
Starfish need to stay in the water. Yet, I see folks holding them up even setting them on the beach for photos. This is equivalent to someone holding your head under water just to the point you are almost drown. I'm sure many of these starfish are already dead. The number of dead starfish I've counted within a quarter mile of the point has increased dramatically. On this last trip out of 23 starfish I saw not one was alive.
There re needs to be a gigantic sign on the point that reads "You are in a Marine Sanctuary. Please handle Starfish gently, do not take them out of the water. Photograph them by holding approximately just under the surface then place back on the bottom. NOTHING -dead or alive can be remove from a Marine Sanctuary under penalty of law. Respect the ocean and its creatures."

Completely agree. The owners of the area (DART) did erect multiple signs advising similar a few years ago. I haven't been in awhile, so they may be long gone. Not that people adhered to their warning anyway. The Tourist Association and Watersports Association really need to educate their members and have them enforce the look, but don't touch policy. For soon, this lovely site will be barren
