Hi Testudo, I am heading to the Grand Cayman in mid June and I was wondering if you happen to know which beaches (from the ones on your guide/map) have an entrance fee? and is there enough shade available at most of the beaches? I am going with my girlfriend and she is not a strong swimmer so she will be spending some time on the beach hence the shade is very important. Finally, which snorkeling spots do you recommend for beginners? Thanks!

All the beaches in Cayman are public/free and there are public access paths. The only place that charges an entrance fee is Royal Palm's along Seven Mile Beach, but that is basically aimed at cruise ship daytrippers. Overall good amount of shade can be found. There is certainly plenty in the Sea Grape and Casuarina trees at the Cemetery Beach and Governor's beach sections on Seven Mile Beach. Smith Cove in George Town has plenty under the trees as well. Spotts Beach in Savannah has Palm Trees and covered cabanas, as does Coewood and Governor Russell beaches Bodden Town. Rum Point is mostly shaded Casuarina Trees and Queen's Monument and Wonderland also have tree shade.
Good locations for beginners are Governor's Beach, since it is fairly close to shore and there are tons of fish to keep you occupied. Smith Cove and Cemetery Beach are also good, but with a little less to see. Rum Point in the shallows, is also another good spot with a shallow grass and sand bottom to make standing possible.
